Dharwad, even though a district headquarter had no neonatal care concept. All tiny babies were referred elsewhere. Dr.Rajan was the pioneer to bring the concept of neonatal intensive care and started NICU with warmer, incubator and Phototherapy way back in 1978-79. It was a boon to the innumerable babies born in Dharwad and surrounding villages. So far more than 35,000 children must have received the benefit of lease of life. Many of these NICU graduates are now doctors and engineers and an IAS Officer too. It is a great satisfactory feeling indeed.
