HEALTH CHECK UP CAMPS FOR CHILDREN
Health check up camp for children and awareness of health condition to parents, teachers and students.
Over the last 4 decades, Dr.Rajan has undertaken health check-ups for school children with the help of his medical colleagues. The purpose of these health check-up camps was to identify and treat ailments and also create awareness about the importance of nutrition. He has visited more than 200 schools in the last 4 decades and has advised and given suggestions to many children. The health check-up camps were usually followed by parent teacher and student interaction wherein nutritional experts emphasized the importance of nutrition. It was noticed that majority of the students (at least 60%) suffered from nutritional deficiency. Quite a few of them were detected to have congenital heart disease and genital problems such as undescended testis.
Through these camps, he has found that:
20 to 30% children suffer from malnutrition.
40 to 50% of the school children have anemia.
90% of the children have wax in their ear.
10% of the children suffer from ENT problem with otitis (Leaking ears) and Tonsillitis.
Less than 1% of the children suffer from congenital heart disease (not detected by parents)
Undescended testis is seen in 1% with severe problem.
Respiratory distress is seen in about 20 to 30%.
Skin problems seen in children are due to scabies, pyoderma seen in rural school.
